Letshego Namibia Celebrates the Heritage That Binds Us

Letshego Namibia's offices came alive during National Heritage Week (14–18 September), with celebrations focused on what makes us one people.
For Namibia, the answer is not sameness. It is a choice. Home to twelve tribes and a rich tapestry of cultures and traditions, Namibians are united because, generation after generation, we have chosen to build shared values on top of our differences. These tribal differences are reflected in the boardrooms where uniqueness is the norm we embrace. We choose to sit at the same table, speak each other's languages, and call one another neighbour, colleague, and friend.
Woven into the customs of every Namibian tribe and echoing quietly in the way colleagues greet each other in passing, the Ubuntu philosophy of "I am because you are" continues to influence our traditions. Heritage Week reminded us who we are as a people, where we have come from, and where we are headed together. At the heart of every tradition represented in the room during the celebration, Owambo, Herero, Damara, Nama, Kavango, Caprivian, Baster, San, Tswana, Coloured, Afrikaner, and more, lies the same foundation of love and mutual respect, the very values that keep peace alive in Namibia's workplaces and communities alike.
While Letshego employees celebrated unity in silence, the celebration boldly focused on the nation's unique heritage and diversity of mind. Imagine a Namibia built entirely of engineers, who then would nurse the sick, or keep our hospitals clean and running? A nation of a single tribe would be a nation without its full colour and character. It is precisely because Namibia holds twelve distinct tribes, each contributing its own wisdom, skill, and perspective, that the country moves forward with such vibrancy.
