MEDIA RELEASE                            Issued:  1 November 2023 In a significant gesture to support and improve digital literacy in Namibia, Letshego Bank Namibia has donated 25 second-hand laptops to Nossobville Primary School, situated in the Omaheke Region. The bank has also provided technical support training to ensure the continued maintenance and longevity of these devices.   During the handover event, the Head Boy of Nossobville Primary School, Mr Kahaka Uekeripura, expressed his heartfelt appreciation, emphasising that "this donation is a genuine response to a challenge affecting the future of many Namibian children. These laptops serve as gateways to valuable information and will empower students to develop crucial digital literacy skills, highly valued in our social and business communities."   Kahaka further states that “these laptops will transform the learning environment at Nossobville Primary School. They will enable students to enhance their basic information communication technology skills and research capabilities, preparing them for a brighter future in the digital age. Furthermore, these devices will enable teachers to complement their lessons with online resources, enriching the educational experience in the classroom.”   This gesture underscores Letshego's steadfast commitment to education, which plays a pivotal role in Namibia's development and the realisation of national development objectives. MEDIA RELEASE                            Issued:  20 October 2023   Letshego Holdings Namibia Ltd (LHN) proudly secured the 2023 Best Locally Listed Company title at the prestigious Namibia Top Company Awards ceremony in Windhoek. Organised annually by Cirrus Capital and judged by an independent panel, this awards ceremony seeks to recognise the exceptional achievements of Namibian companies.    Ester Kali, the Executive Officer of Letshego Holdings Namibia, expressed her delight at this independent industry recognition. She emphasised that this award denotes Letshego Holdings Namibia’s unwavering commitment to exemplary corporate governance and sustainable growth in its day-to-day operations while delivering social and economic benefits to more Namibians.”    Despite economic challenges faced during the 2022 Financial Year, including higher interest rates, reduced affordability, and intensified competition in lending rates, Letshego achieved remarkable results. Profit after tax grew by an impressive 16%, and deposits increased from N$386 million in 2021 to N$536 million in 2022. Furthermore, the company distributed a final dividend of 44.89 cents per share on 15 June 2023, establishing a remarkable dividend yield of 18.7%, the highest among NSX local tickers. Dedicated efforts, innovation, and the diversification of the product portfolio drove this success. Over the last two years, Letshego Namibia has extended its services beyond government employees. The Group broadened its loan offerings and introduced low-cost transactional bank accounts and high-yield savings products, resulting in impressive growth and increased shareholder value.   The Best Locally Listed Company category spun around three fundamental assessment criteria: return, growth, and investor relations management. The return accounted for 60% of the overall assessment, including share price appreciation, dividend yield, net profit to market capitalisation, and return on equity. Growth contributed 20% to the overall score, considering revenue and profit growth. Investor Relations made up the remaining 20% and was supported by a survey assessing interactions, the quality of information distributed to stakeholders, and integrated reporting, all independently conducted by Cirrus.   These stringent criteria and meticulous evaluation process underscored Letshego Namibia’s exceptional performance and unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of corporate governance. From humble beginnings as an enquiry official at the Barclays branch in Ondangwa, Dr. Ester Kali has shattered the glass ceiling of the traditionally male-dominated financial industry. Making history in 2014 as the first female CEO in the Namibian financial sector, Dr. Kali has established a remarkable legacy. The story of Namibia’s financial sector cannot be told without mentioning this trailblazing, visionary leader with an unwavering dedication to growth, innovation, and social upliftment. Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Kali is a devout Christian, wife, and mother of three who finds joy in making sourdough bread, reflecting her grounded nature and commitment to balance.   Reflecting on Her Childhood Dr. Ester Kali grew up in Mondesa, Swakopmund, as the eldest of six siblings in a family supported by their mother, a domestic worker. Taking on significant responsibilities early, Dr. Kali helped manage the household and even started a small business selling “vetkoek” to contribute. Her commitment to community welfare is evident in her previous role as Chairlady of the National Social Marketing Programme (NASOMA), focusing on HIV prevention.
